Hello everyone,

BOX OFFICE: “Street Fighter” led the weekend with $30.7 million but the big surprise was the A24 movie “You Can See Everything” which was only on 855 theaters but still came in at #2 with $15.6 million.  It’s per screen average was $18,247 while the #1 movie “Street Fighter” was on 3575 screens and made $8608 per screen.  The other wide releases were “Whalefall” which was #4 with $7.8 million and “Sense and Sensibility” was #5 with $7.2 million.  “Other Mommy” fell 70% from the previous weekend but was still #3 with $8.2 million.

For the first time EVER (I believe), Netflix released box office data.  Their film “La Bola Negra” only played on 4 screens but it made an incredible $69,375 per screen which was the biggest per screen average of the weekend.

The total domestic box office climbed 17% from the previous 3-day weekend for a domestic total of $102.7 million.

WORLDWIDE BOX OFFICE: “Street Fighter” was also #1 worldwide with a worldwide total of approx. $51 million.  It looks like the #2 movie worldwide this past weekend was the India movie “Jailer 2” which made approx. $32 million global.  The third biggest was “Resident Evil” which just passed a worldwide total of $360 million.

OTHER NEWS:

The big news of last week was the Netflix layoffs.  They laid off approx. 1000 people which is approx. 6% of their workforce.  Part of the layoffs were executives including Dan Lin – Netflix Film Boss – and Bela Bajaria – Chief content officer.

Stephen Soderbergh just agreed to step in to finish filming “The Batman Part II” after director Matt Reeves had to halt production for a personal matter.

LITTLE BIT OF HUMOR: The newest A.I. videos on Instagram seem to be a music video with all the characters replaced by a movie cast.

The screenshot above the group is replaced with the cast of “The Godfather” (click on the above photo to watch the video).  They also have a video of the same song with the cast of “Gladiator”, “Terminator 2”, “The Hangover”, “Goodfellas”, and several other movies and television shows.  It’s funny to watch at first but unfortunately the song is the same and the actions are (pretty much) the same so it gets monotonous the more videos you watch.  Just search for “#higgsfieldgenjutsu” to watch more videos on Instagram.
