Hello everyone,
BOX OFFICE: “Verity” opened at #1 at the domestic box office this past weekend making $32 million. That’s the 3rd #1 movie for Anne Hathaway this year. The other big opening “Digger” starring Tom Cruise and directed by Alejandro G. Iñárritu came in at #4 way below expectations with just $8 million. It’s one of the worst openings for a Tom Cruise movie ever. Last weekend’s #2 movie “Resident Evil” stayed at #2 this weekend making $12.6 million and last weekend’s #3 movie “Heart of the Beast” stayed at #3 making $10.8 million. Last weekends top movie “Avengers Endgame Encore” fell over 80% on its second weekend making only $4.4 million.
The total weekend box office was $98.5 million which is down about 21% from the previous weekend.
WORLDWIDE BOX OFFICE: When “Avatar” was rereleased a few years ago it retook the BIGGEST WORLDWIDE BOX OFFICE OF ALL TIME crown with a total of $2.923 BILLION. This past week, “Avengers Endgame” just barely jumped past it. Its total is now $2.295 BILLION. “Verity” made $62 million worldwide which is the 2nd best worldwide opening for a movie based on a book by Colleen Hoover (the biggest was “It Ends With Us”). “Digger” also underperformed worldwide making just $20 million worldwide.
OTHER NEWS:
They announced that the new company after the Paramount/Warner Bros merger is finalized (which should be this week) will be called “Skydance” although everything else will keep its name (like Disney still releases movie from “20th Century Fox”, “Pixar”, “Lucasfilm” etc). Supposedly, they’ll even keep the Paramount+ and HBO MAX streaming separate.
LITTLE BIT OF HUMOR:

If “Dune 3” isn’t a blockbuster, then I would DEFINITELY say it’s a sign.
