BOX OFFICE: Predictions said a possible 3-way race for the top of the domestic box office charts before the weekend started but at the end it was “Avengers Endgame Encore” at the top with the second highest late-September weekend ever with $26 million. Last weeks “Resident Evil” fell over 60% but still was #2 with $23 million. The new Brad Pitt movie “Heart of the Beast” was third with $20 million and the new movie “Primetime” was fourth with $19 million. However, for per-screen average, “Primetime” made about $6679 per screen on 2875 screens, “Resident Evil” mad $6246 on 3684 screens and “Heart of the Beast” made $5834 per screen on 3435 screens. “Avengers Endgame Encore” was still the biggest wide release with $8531 on 3060 screens.
The total domestic box office was $123.4 million which is a 10% jump from the previous weekend.
WORLDWIDE BOX OFFICE: Worldwide “Avengers Endgame Encore” also dominated making $86 million worldwide. Second place worldwide was also “Resident Evil” which is now approaching a worldwide gross of $200 million. “Heart of the Beast” made a worldwide total of $50 million.
OTHER NEWS:
Universal became the first studio to pass a worldwide total of over $5 BILLION this year.
They announced that they’re planning to re-release the biggest movie of 2026 so far “Spider-Man: Brand New Day” with never-before-seen footage added to it (sort of like how “Avengers Endgame Encore” did). Some people think it might be the very first movie to pass $1 BILLION at the domestic box office after the re-release.
LITTLE BIT OF HUMOR: No official word from Lucasfilm or Disney but there’s a rumor that the next Star Wars movie could be another movie in the “Skywalker” saga. However……
…..Rey is NOT A SKYWALKER (sorry about the spoiler if you didn’t know) Maybe the movie will be a prequel. Episode Minus 1?
