Hello everyone,

BOX OFFICE: The big winner of the weekend was the reboot of “Resident Evil” which made $60 million over the weekend which is the highest opening weekend of the any of the Resident Evil movies. In fact, it almost beats the ENTIRE DOMESTC BOX OFFICE of the previous highest grossing domestic Resident Evil – 2010s “Afterlife”. “Practical Magic 2” fell almost 60% coming in at #2 with $12 million. “Spider-Man Brand New Day” was #3 with $6.4 million but it still made enough last week to be the BIGGEST MOVIE AT THE DOMESTIC BOX OFFICE EVER. Its domestic total is now $944.4 million. “The Odyssey” came in at #4 with almost $5 million and its domestic total just passed $600 million.

Overall, the total domestic box office was $111.7 which is up about 30% over the previous weekend.

WORLDWIDE BOX OFFICE:  Worldwide “Resident Evil” made $108 million which is also a record for the franchise.  “The Odyssey” was the second best internationally.  Its worldwide box office is now $1.723 billion which is #11 on the all-time worldwide box office list.

OTHER NEWS:

The big news of today is that the antitrust lawsuits that several states and the WGA had against the merger of Paramount and Warner Bros has now been settled.  They may be starting the merger process as soon as next month.

Several big names – including Robert De Niro, Tyler Perry, Steven Spielberg, Bryce Dallas Howard, Spike Lee, Ron Howard, Jon Favreau, Christopher Nolan, Francis Ford Coppola, Lee Daniels, Peter Jackson, Guillermo del Toro, Edgar Wright, JR, Frank Marshall, Denis Villeneuve, John Landis, Jon M. Chu, Harrison Ford, Oprah Winfrey, Mark Hamill, etc. came out to the grand opening of the new “George Lucas’ Museum of Narrative Art” this past weekend
