BOX OFFICE: For the first time since it opened, “Spider-Man: Brand New Day” dropped down to #2 on the domestic box office list, but it has still made enough to be LESS THAN $2 MILLION SHY OF THE BIGGEST DOMESTIC OPENING OF ALL TIME. It’s current total is $935.1 million while the #1 movie on the all time list – Star Wars Episode VII – The Force Awakens” is at $936.6 million. It should become the biggest movie at the domestic box office by tomorrow (Tuesday 9/15). The #1 movie this weekend was “Practical Magic 2” which came out below estimates but made $30 million. It was the only movie to make over $10 million. “Spider-Man: Brand New Day” made $8.4 million and #3 movie “The Odyssey” made $7.5 million.
Overall, the total domestic box office was $83 million which is down 10% from the 3-day last weekend and it’s the lowest the total domestic box office since Feb of this year.
WORLDWIDE BOX OFFICE: Worldwide “Practical Magic 2” was the top movie with a worldwide total of $46 million but ““Spider-Man: Brand New Day” is still rolling along. It passed “Avatar: The Way of Water” to be the #3 biggest movie of all time at the worldwide box office. Also, “The Odyssey” is still doing well. It just passed “Jurassic World” to be Universals biggest movie ever at the worldwide box office (#12 on the list) with $1.685 billion worldwide.
OTHER NEWS:
It’s true. In 2025, Warner Bros was one of the top studios with 3 movies in the top 10 of the domestic box office including the #1 movie of the year “A Minecraft Movie”. This year, NONE OF IT’S 8 RELEASES (so far) have made more than $84 million. EVERY OTHER MAJOR STUDIO and some smaller studios (including A24 and Focus Features) have at least 1 movie that made more than $100 million. Fortunately, they have 4 movies left that MIGHT DO IT. The Tom Cruise movie “Digger”, The DC comic movie “Clayface”, The animated “The Cat in the Hat”, and “Dune Part 3”.
LITTLE BIT OF HUMOR: Stephen Colbert is hard at work.
Backstage at the Emmy Awards tonight Stephen Colbert had some comments about writing a “Lord of the Rings” movie.
“That’s what I’m doing,” Colbert told a room of journalists of how busy he’s kept writing. “That takes a lot of time, man. You ever written a Lord of the Rings movie? It’s a full-time job. Literally, I woke up in New Zealand yesterday. I flew here for the Emmys,” Colbert said backstage. “Yesterday, [when I was in] New Zealand [it was] was tomorrow there. I went from yesterday to tomorrow, so I don’t know how many days today has been.”
