Hello everyone,

BOX OFFICE: “Toy Story 5” broke records this weekend making almost $160 million which is the highest opening weekend of 2026 so far and the biggest opening for any “Toy Story” movie.  “Disclosure Day” moved down to second making $17.7 million which is a 60% drop.  For the first time, “Obsession” made LESS than its opening weekend total making $13.4 million this past weekend.  Its domestic total is now $215 million.

Total domestic weekend rose 83% to $229.2 million.  Last weekend the TOTAL domestic box office was LESS THAN what “TOY STORY 5” made this past weekend.

WORLDWIDE BOX OFFICE: “Toy Story 5” also became the highest worldwide opening for 2026 so far and the highest worldwide opening weekend of the “Toy Story” franchise.  Meanwhile, “Michael” may eventually pass $1 billion worldwide – the first Lionsgate release to EVER make that much money.  Its currently at $960 million worldwide.

OTHER NEWS:

  • All the major unions have now signed new contracts with the studios after the DGA union recently certified their new contract.
  • If you’re planning on seeing a movie at the AMC Universal CityWalk in Studio City CA – where the first week of “The Odyssey” in 70mm IMAX is SOLD OUT – you should give yourself a little more time because they just moved the security checkpoints/metal detectors from the entrance to Universal Studios to the entrance to the Universal CityWalk so you’ll need to go through security to go see a movie.
  • The Sphere in Las Vegas recently announced that the next movie showing on their giant screen will be “The Rocky Horror Picture Show” starting sometime in 2027 when “The Wizard of Oz” possibly ends it’s run.

LITTLE BIT OF HUMOR: In one scene of “The Wizard of Oz” at the Sphere in Las Vegas, apples fall from the ceiling (Styrofoam, not real).  When the band “No Doubt” played there, they replaced the apples with oranges (because they’re from Orange County, Ca).

GOD ONLY KNOWS what will fall from the roof during “The Rocky Horror Picture Show”.
