Hello everyone,
BOX OFFICE: The new Spielberg movie “Disclosure Day” opened at #1 with $44.5 million. #2 was “Obsession” with $19 million which is STILL higher than its opening weekend box office of $17 million. The two movie openings last weekend took huge drops for their 2nd weekends. Last weekends “Scary Movie” dropped a whopping 74% to $14.2 million for #3 and last weeks “Masters of the Universe” dropped 70% to $9 million for #5. #4 “Backrooms” has now past $160 million domestically making $11.5 million this past weekend.
Total domestic weekend dropped 32% to #123.6 million.
WORLDWIDE BOX OFFICE: “Disclosure Day” made a worldwide total of $93 million which is comparable to the opening of other ORIGINAL Spielberg movies (not a sequel and not based on a book, other movie, etc). “Michael” is now at $935 million which makes it the biggest worldwide box office for any musical biopic (passing “Bohemian Rhapsody”). “The Devils Wears Prada 2” has now made $675 million which means that the entire “Devil Wears Prada” franchise has now made over $1 BILLION.
OTHER NEWS:
- Paramount sold the few movie theaters it still owned. European movie theater chain “Kinepolis” bought the 13 theater chain “Showcase Cinemas” that are the last movie theaters that Paramount owned with the chain former called “National Amusements”. The chain was owned alongside Paramount by the Redstone family. They were both acquired by the Ellisons family last August.
- The $111 billion Warner Bros acquisition by Paramount was just approved by the US Department of Justice although it still has several lawsuits to contend with including one from the DA of Calfornia.
LITTLE BIT OF HUMOR: During the press tour for “Disclosure Day” Spielberg was asked What filmmaker from the past would you like to have dinner with? His response is Alfred Hitchcock.

He goes on to tell the story of when he once tried to meet Alfred Hitchcock, but things didn’t go well. Click on the above photo for the Instagram link of Spielberg telling the story
