Hello everyone,
BOX OFFICE: The first summer movie hopeful didn’t do as well as predicted coming in just below predictions. “The Mandalorian and Grogu” made $81.6 million over the 3 day weekend and $98 million over the 4 day holiday weekend. Meanwhile, last week’s new release “Obsession” made MORE MONEY on it’s second week (39% higher) from the week before (although it only added about 40 screens) coming in at #2 with $23.9 million 3-day (the previous week it made $17.9 million) and $32 million (4-day). “Michael” slipped past $300 million total domestic box office making $20.6 million (3-day) and $27.1 million (4-day) and “The Devil Wears Prada 2” coming in at #4 just hit $200 million domestic making $12.7 million (3-day) and $16.2 million (4-day).
Overall domestic weekend box office was $175.7 million 3-day and $220 million 4-day holiday weekend which is the 2nd highest 3-day and 2nd highest holiday weekend (the #1 is still Easter weekend which made $199 million 3-day and $222 million 4-day holiday weekend).
WORLDWIDE BOX OFFICE: On the other hand, “The Mandalorian and Grogu” was HIGHER than the predictions making $69 million internationally for a worldwide total of $167 million worldwide. That’s comparable to the opening of “Solo: A Star Wars Story”.
OTHER NEWS:
- Netflix recently announced that the “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood” spinoff movie “The Adventures of Cliff Booth” will replace the Narnia movie (recently moved to 2027) on IMAX screens on November 25th for 2 weeks before premiering on Netflix right before Christmas.
- There are now rumors that IMAX is exploring a sale. They’re in a good position right now since opening weekend showings of this summers “The Odyssey” have already sold out and some showings of “Dune 3” this Christmas have also sold out. No word on who the potential buyer would be.
LITTLE BIT OF HUMOR: There was this weird rumor going around last week that was pretty funny about an end credit scene in “The Sheep Detectives” that says they WON’T RETURN in “Avengers:Doomsday”
