BOX OFFICE: This past weekend “Michael” raced back to the top of the domestic box office with $26.1 million. “The Devil Wears Prada 2” sunk to #2 – dropping 57% to $17.8 million (some say it won the weekend last weekend because of Mothers Day). The new movie “Obsession” was #3 with #17.1 million. “Mortal Kombat 2” dropped over 65% to come in at #4 with $13.4 million.
The total domestic box office drooped 33.4% to $106.7 million but people are already looking at next weekend when the new Star Wars movie “The Mandalorian and Grogu” should kick start this summer’s box office.
WORLDWIDE BOX OFFICE: “Michael” also reclaimed the #1 spot worldwide with approx. $84 million in foreign countries. Its worldwide total is now just above $700 million which means it’s now the #2 movie worldwide for 2026 (so far). “The Devil Wears Prada 2” is also still doing well making $69 internationally and putting its global total to over $545 million. Meanwhile “The Super Mario Galaxy Movie” – the #1 movie of 2026 so far – might make it to $1 billion since it’s now at just under $970 million worldwide.
OTHER NEWS:
- It’s still 10 months away but they just announced that Conan O’Brien will once again be the host of the Academy Awards in 2027. He’s also a joining the voice cast of the “Toy Story” franchise in “Toy Story 5” which opens in June.
- For some reason, Elon Musk has decided to criticize Christopher Nolan’s upcoming “The Odyssey” because Helen of Troy is played by Lupita Nyong’o – a black woman. He said, “he cast her because he wants to win awards” (they announced that Best Picture winner need some minorities in order to be nominated for an Academy Award).
