Hello everyone,

BOX OFFICE: “The Super Mario Galaxy Movie” continued to lead the box office with $36.5 million which is down 46% from the previous weekend but still well above #2 – which was once again “Project Hail Mary” with $20.5 million.  “The Super Mario Galaxy Movie” domestic total is now over $350 million after just 3 weeks.  The domestic total for “Project Hail Mary” is over $285 million after 5 weeks.  The new movie “Lee Cronins the Mummy” was third with $13.5 million.

Domestic box office total dipped under $100 million to $94 million which is 25% lower than the previous weekend.

WORLDWIDE BOX OFFICE: “The Super Mario Galaxy Movie” also continued to lead the international box office and is now the #1 movie of 2026 worldwide with $750.7 million (zooming past the Chinese movie “Pegasus 3”)  “Project Hail Mary” is also still doing well worldwide with a global total of $573 million.

OTHER NEWS:

  • It was reported last week that the Disney layoffs I mentioned last week includes almost THE ENTIRE DVD MARKETING AND PROMOTION DEPARTMENT.  So, it looks like the “special edition” DVDs or 4K DVDs or Box sets at Disney are over although they will still remaster and restore old movies in 4K to play on Disney+, other streaming services, or show theatrically.
  • It was also noted that the Disney layoffs included 8% of the Marvel staff including some of their VFX staff.  There’s a quote that says “The cuts in the visual development area are said to be significant, with Marvel Studios retaining a small team to oversee the hiring of artists on a project-by-project basis who will be outside contractors going forward.”

LITTLE BIT OF HUMOR: A huge explosion in Simi Valley on Saturday was heard for a few miles around and seen from SEVERAL MILES around (a friend of mine saw it from Calabasas which is about 10 miles southwest of Simi Valley).

Apparently, it was a giant explosion for the final scene of the next Jackass movie coming this summer.  Johnny Knoxville personally went on Instagram to explain (link for full post)
