summer box office recap

The summer movie box office was decent – basically tying last year’s summer box office – which is a disappointment for some that were hoping the box office would increase year over year.

The top 10 of summer 2025 are….

  7. The Fantastic Four: First Steps – $514.947 million

  9. Weapons – $251.201 million
  10. The Conjuring: Last Rites – $194 million (this just opened this past weekend).

The total box office from Memorial Day to Labor Day was approx $3.67 million which is about the same as last year.  Possibly due to some hopeful blockbusters that weren’t big blockbusters.  Last year there were 2 movies that made over $600 million domestically (“Inside Out 2” and “Deadpool and Wolverine”) this year there was none.  Last year there was 2 movies that made over a billion worldwide, but this year there was just 1.  The box office was more spread out this summer instead of 2 movies way above everyone else.

There was a big box office movie right after Labor Day this year “The Conjuring: Last Rights” like last year (“Beetlejuice Beetlejuice”) and this fall and winter there are still plenty of big box office movies coming like “Wicked Part 2” and “Avatar Fire and Ash” so 2025 could end being a record breaking year.
