Hello everyone,
BOX OFFICE: With no new major releases this past weekend, the weekend was one of the lowest of this year with a total of approx. $69 million. Only 1 movie made over $10 million – the animated Hayao Miyazaki “The Boy and the Heron” made almost $13 million. Last weeks #1 movie “Renaissance: A Film by Beyonce” sank almost 75% to #5 with almost $5.5 million. For per screen average, “Poor Things” starring Emma Stone made $73.5 thousand per screen on only 9 screens.
WORLDWIDE BOX OFFICE: Worldwide box office did a lot better than domestic since “Wonka” has already opened in several foreign countries (it opens domestically next weekend) making $43 million worldwide. Also, the animated movie “Migration” opened in some foreign countries and made a decent $6.5 million.
OTHER NEWS: The movie that was previous scheduled for release this past weekend was “The Bikeriders” starring Austin Butler, Jodie Comer, and Tom Hardy – which Focus Features recently took over from Fox Studios – was recently scheduled for release June 2024.
The actors strike is now OFFICIALLY over after 78% of the actors voted for it.
The 100-year anniversary of Disney and Warner Bros is coming to a close in a few weeks but the 100-year anniversary of Columbia Pictures (now part of Sony Pictures) will be beginning in a few weeks. They recently unveiled their logo which similar to the Warner Bros and Disney logos.

The Golden Globe award nominations were announced this morning. Once again, they voted for some based-on popularity instead of quality. For example, Jennifer Lawrence in “No Hard Feelings” was nominated for best actress in musical or comedy and Matt Damon in “Air” was nominated for best actor in musical or comedy. Meryl Streep got one more nomination to add to her collection – she is the most nominated person at the Golden Globes – for supporting actress on the TV show “Only Murders in the Building”. Apparently, they don’t like Harrison Ford who was subbed for both of his TV roles – although his costar on the TV show “Shrinking” and his costar on the TV show “1923” were both nominated.
There’s also the odd new category “Cinematic and Box Office Achievement”. All the nominations were in the top 12 on the domestic box office charts but only the top 5 movies would be considered a box office achievement.
1 – “Barbie” – $635 million domestic
2 – “Super Mario Bros Movie” – $574 million
3 – “Spider Man Across the SpiderVerse” – $381 million
4 – “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3” – $358 million
5 – “Oppenheimer” – $325 million
8 – John Wick Chapter 4 – $187 million
10 – Taylor Swift the Eras Tour – $178 million
12 – Mission Impossible Dead Reckoning Part 1 – $172 million
Sort of interesting that #6, 7, and 11 are all Disney movies. Other than 2 Searchlight movies, Disney only got 3 nominations. “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3” (above) and “Wish” and “Elemental” for best animated movie. Plus, the #11 at the domestic box office is “Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny”. Another Harrison Ford snub???
One more weird thing about the upcoming Golden Globe Awards. The show is in less than 4 weeks but there’s no host announced for the show yet. They announced Jimmy Kimmel for the Academy Awards which is almost 2 months later.
LITTLE BIT OF HUMOR:

The list is from the movie “WarGames”. I’ve always wondered about the game “Air-To-Ground-Actions”. What exactly happens in that game????? One team shoots at the ground and the other team shoots at the air????
