Hello everyone,
- Despite the winter storms which actually forced movie theaters to close over the holiday weekend, the weekend overall was still pretty good. “Avatar: The Way of Water” made approx. $64 million 3-day weekend and approx. $96 for the 4-day holiday weekend. This is an approx. 53% decline from the previous weekend. People are saying the cold weather is partly to blame for that decline however it’s decline is less than last years holiday weekend (when Christmas Day was Saturday) which was -68% for “Spider Man: No Way Home” (although, even with the larger decline, last year’s holiday 3 day weekend for “Spider-Man” was $85 million). The new total makes “Avatar” #8 of the top 10 domestic of 2022 with approx. $287 domestic million total.
- #2 was “Puss in Boots: The Last Wish with $12 million 3-day and $20 million 4-day. #3 was “Whitney Houston: I Wanna Dance with Somebody” with $4.7 million 3-day and $6.8 million 4-day. Coming in 4th was “Babylon” with a very disappointing $3.6 million 3-day and $5.3 million 4-day.
Total box office was approx. $83 million for the 3-day which is about 57% lower than last years holiday (not 3-day weekend) total of $144 million.
- Worldwide was a lot more impressive for “Avatar”. Thanks in part to its China release it is now a global total $885 million which is over “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever” which crossed $800 million worldwide. It’s now the #5 biggest box office movie of 2022 worldwide.
Internet responses….
- There was a cover story in “New York” magazine about nepotism in the movie industry last week….

..and some internet responses quoted an old comment from Jamie Lee Curtis.

..then a lot of the other children of actors/actresses tried to defend themselves including Kate Hudson (who is the daughter of Goldie Hawn and Kurt Russell – who ALSO have parents who were performers).
Little bit of humor…

I know that’s Margot Robbie…or that’s Margot Robbie….or that’s Margot Robbie…and that one looks like Margot Robbie……….
(actually, it’s TOP: Jamie King, MARGOT ROBBIE, Faith Ford. Bottom: Samara Weaving, Emma Mackey, Jaime Pressly).
HAPPY HOLIDAYS and HAPPY NEW YEAR!
