Warner’s latest popcorn muncher opened with a huge $55 Million dollar take on its debut weekend. 3D versions of the film were helping to drive a lot of the numbers with premium ticket prices, but turnout was strong and people seem to like the film.
If early reviews are any indicator, the film is likely to continue to see strong successes in the coming weeks. Though it looks like a live-action film, the amount of CG and roto work involved would squarely paint this as an animated film to me, regardless of the human faces on screen.
Still a bright looking technological achievement, it appears the story has enough going on to make this bigger than the average mind-numbing CGI type films in the ‘Pacific Rim’ vein. If only they could all be more like this film rather than the latter.
