Hello everyone,
BOX OFFICE: “Project Hail Mary” continues to dominate at the box office making $54 million. In 2 weeks, it has made a domestic total of $163.8 million which is more than “Hoppers” has made in 4 weeks ($138.5 million). It’s also a new box office record for a movie released by Amazon. Some people thought the slasher movie “They Will Kill You” might do well – but it didn’t. It came in 3rd (“Hoppers” was #2) with a meager $5 million.
The total domestic box office dipped 31.8% to $96.3 million. However, it’s expected to be supercharged by “The Super Mario Galaxy Movie” which opens this Wednesday (April 1) since most schools are on spring break and is expected to make over $150 million by Easter Sunday.
WORLDWIDE BOX OFFICE: Worldwide box office “Project Hail Mary” is also dominating. “Project Hail Mary” now has a worldwide total of $317 million which is the highest box office for an American release of 2026 so far (“Pegasus 3” from China is #1 with a little over $609 million). “Hoppers” is close behind with $298 million worldwide box office. However, “The Super Mario Galaxy Movie” is predicted to zoom past “Project Hail Mary” make $350 million worldwide by next Sunday.
OTHER NEWS:
- Correction about the “prediction” website “Kalshi”. First, only some types of “predictions” were banned in Nevada – like sports. People in Nevada can still “predict” other topics on the website (like politics). Second, the ban is only temporary. So, unless something changes this week, it will go back to what it was starting this Friday.
- Not only is the Academy Awards moving from ABC to YouTube in 3 years (starting in 2029) it will also change location. They recently announced that it will move from the Dolby Theatre to the Peacock Theater in downtown Los Angeles.
- Sony just announced they moved “Jumanji 3” to Christmas day at the end of this year to move away from the combo of “Dune 3” and “Avengers Doomsday” which will both be released in mid-December.
LITTLE BIT OF HUMOR: In just 3 weeks this has become out of date….

..if it was built SPECIFICALLY FOR THE OSCARS that was a lot of time and money wasted. (if you want to read the story click on this link)
Also, there are plaques listing EVERY BEST PICTURE WINNER on the hallway leading up to the Dolby Theatre…..

…my guess is it’ll be taken down and maybe moved to somewhere near the Peacock Theater in 2029.
