BOX OFFICE: The new movie “Send Help” topped the domestic box office this past weekend with $19.1 million. The #2 movie which is called “an indie film from a YouTuber” was “Iron Lung” with $17.8 million. #3 is the new documentary “Melania” with $7.1 million although it did the best in red states and the theaters that usually do the best box office for new movies had little to no people seeing the movie. There were reports of “sold out theaters” with NO ONE IN THEM and reports of people getting paid to sit in the theater (one person online said he played games on his phone while sitting in an empty movie theater). “Zootopia 2” is #4 with $5.9 million which is 11.8% MORE than it made the weekend before and made its total domestic box office slip past $400 million.
Overall, the total domestic box office was $84 million which is up 53.4% from the previous weekend.
WORLDWIDE BOX OFFICE: Worldwide, “Send Help” marks the 10th time in a row that Disney had the #1 movie worldwide (it’s released by Fox – just like “Avatar Fire and Ash” – which Disney owns) making $27.2 million worldwide total. Disney currently has the top 3 spots on the worldwide weekend box charts – “Avatar Fire and Ash” is #2 ($24.9 worldwide over the weekend) and “Zootopia 2” is #3 ($23.2 worldwide over the weekend). “Iron Lung” opened at #2 domestically but #6 internationally with $3.9 million. That puts its worldwide total at $22.1 which is a little under “Zootopia 2” worldwide weekend total.

The long postponed “Fast and the Furious” sequel is now named “Fast Forever” and will come out in a little over 2 years on March 17, 2028
At the Grammys last night, Steven Spielberg produced “Music by John Williams” won a Grammy for Best Music Film. That makes him the latest “EGOT” (Emmy, Grammy, Tony, Oscar”) winner.
I mentioned that the website “Kalshi” lets you “trade on” (otherwise known as betting on) the winners of the upcoming Academy Awards. They’ve recently started airing a television commercial which promotes it.
LITTLE BIT OF HUMOR: Some people are saying that “Melania” is the highest grossing documentary in a decade.
I didn’t know that Oct 2023 was a decade ago???? (the same people say that movie doesn’t count as a documentary although most websites say it is).
