BOX OFFICE: “Avatar: Fire and Ash” retained the #1 spot at the domestic box office for the first holiday weekend of 2026. It made $17.9 million (4-day) and $14.5 (3-day). Its domestic total is now just under $370 million. The biggest new opening was “28 Years Later: The Bone Temple” which made $14.4 million (4-day) and $12.5 million (3-day).
The total domestic box office was $85.5 million (3-day) which was down about 9% from the week before and the first holiday weekend of the year made $104.8 million total.
WORLDWIDE BOX OFFICE: “Zootopia 2” is now the highest grossing US animated movie worldwide passing $1.7 billion. The highest grossing animated movie is “Ne Zha 2” from China. Meanwhile, “Avatar: Fire and Ash” is now approaching $1.325 billion worldwide.

Last week Lucasfilm announced that after nearly 14 years Kathleen Kennedy would be stepping down as President but will continue as a producer for the next two Star Wars movie (“The Mandalorian and Grogu” releasing May of this year and “Star Wars: Starfighter” releasing May of 2027). The new co-presidents of Lucasfilm will be Dave Filoni (currently Lucasfilm EVP and Chief Creative Officer) and Lynwen Brennan (currently President & GM of Lucasfilm Business.)
Today, Netflix changed their offer to buy Warner Bros to an all-cash offer (similar to Paramount’s competing offer). Meanwhile, Ted Sarandos has been saying that Netflix will continue to release Warner Bros movies for a 45-day theatrical window after the purchase is complete.
LITTLE BIT OF HUMOR: They recently announced that there will be ANOTHER “Jackass” movie coming in June this summer. However….

Co-creator of the Jackass franchise, Johnny Knoxville said he has way to many concussions over the years so he’s going to leave that to the other cast members this time.
