Hello everyone,

BOX OFFICE: Thanksgiving weekend blew up the box office with “Zootopia 2” breaking box office records.  It was the 2nd best Thanksgiving domestic opening EVER with $158.8 million (5 day) and $100 million (3-day).  #2 was “Wicked For Good” which went down approx. 60% and still made $91 million (5-day) and $61 million (3-day).

The total domestic box office was $188 million for 3-day and $287 million for the 5-day.  The 3 day is almost equal to the previous weekend.

WORLDWIDE BOX OFFICE: “Zootopia 2” also became a worldwide blockbuster mostly thanks to China where it made a record $271.6 million.  That’s the 2nd highest opening in China EVER for a non-Chinese movie (“Avengers: Endgame” is #1).  With the help of China, the international total is $400 million, and the global total is $556.4 million.  That makes it the BIGGEST WORLDWIDE OPENING FOR AN ANIMATED MOVIE EVER! and the 4th highest worldwide opening EVER.  (let’s see a movie on Netflix make over $500 million ALL BY ITSELF in 5 days).

OTHER NEWS:

Paramount just signed a deal to distribute “Rush Hour 4”.  Previously, Warner Bros cut all ties with disgraced director Brett Ratner (after being sued for sexual harassment in 2017).  Supposedly, Ratner is friends with Donald Trump (Ratner is directing a documentary about Melania Trump that will be released in January 2026) and he helped get the new Paramount brass to work with Ratner.

On Dec 12, “Sinners” and “One Battle After Another” will have special 1 week showings in 70mm IMAX (before “Avatar 3” opens and takes all the IMAX screens) and there are rumors that a 6 minute “prologue” to Christopher Nolan’s movie “The Odyssey” before the showings (which is odd since “Sinners” and “One Battle After Another” are Warner Bros movies and Christopher Nolan left Warner Bros and went to Universal for his previous movie “Oppenheimer” and his next movie).

Last week the group of directors that purchased the Village movie theater in Westwood Village last year announced that it will be run and programmed by American Cinematheque when it reopens in 2027.  American Cinematheque already programs some of the showings at the Egyptian theater and the Los Feliz 3 theaters in Hollywood and the Aero theater in Santa Monica.

In one of the first awards given out in awards season, “One Battle After Another” just won best picture at the Gotham Awards.

LITTLE BIT OF HUMOR:

It would be funnier if they AREN’T seeing “Wicked”
