Hello everyone,

BOX OFFICE: This weekend “Wicked for Good” dominated the box office making almost $150 million in 3 days at the domestic box office.  That’s over TWICE the TOTAL DOMESTIC BOX OFFICE for last week.  That was a whopping $35,754 PER SCREEN.  It’s the 2nd highest opening domestic box office of 2025 (the first is “The Minecraft Movie” which made $162.7 million.  The #2 movie – last weeks #1 – “Now You See Me: Now You Don’t” made only $8.9 million.

The total domestic box office was up 146% from the previous weekend thanks to “Wicked for Good” with $182 million.

WORLDWIDE BOX OFFICE: “Wicked for Good” also dominated the worldwide box office making a worldwide total of $226 million.  That total doesn’t include China, where the movie doesn’t open until the end of December.

OTHER NEWS:

The movie from Trey Parker and Matt Stone (creators of “South Park” and “Book of Mormon”) and singer Kenrick Lamar – which was previously scheduled for March 20, 2026 (some people thought the trailer would premiere with “Running Man”) – was pushed back by Paramount again.  The new release date is TBD.

Last week the initial bids for Warner Bros Discovery were formally submitted by Paramount/Skydance, Netflix, Comcast, and other companies.  Netflix announced that if they acquired Warner Bros, they would continue to release all of the Warner Bros movie theatrically, but other companies are skeptical that they will continue to do that after current theatrical obligations are finished.

The A24 movie starring the new up-and-coming star Glen Powell changed its title from “Huntington” to “How to Make a Killing” and its release date has been set to Feb 20, 2026.

LITTLE BIT OF HUMOR: Today, I saw the movie “Jay Kelly” at the Egyptian theater in Hollywood.  That theater only shows Netflix movies and American Cinematheque screenings, so the only previews before the movie were Netflix movies.  One of the PREVIEWS shown today was for “A House of Dynamite” a movie that played in movie theaters several weeks ago and started playing on Netflix about A MONTH AGO.   As I was leaving the movie theater I was joking with my friend about the definition of the word “preview”.  My friend joked that they should call that a “trailer”….

If you think about it, he has a point.

HAPPY THANKSGIVING!
