Hello everyone,
BOX OFFICE: Almost everyone predicted “The Running Man” would be a close race for first place with “Now You See Me Now You Don’t” but the latter was #1 from the start and “Running Man” didn’t even get close. Despite being on approx. 1300 more screens, “The Running Man” settled for 2nd with about $16.5 million this weekend while “Now You See Me Now You Don’t” took first with $21 million. #3 was “Predator Badlands” which went down over two thirds from the previous weekend but still came in at $12.7 million which is less than $4 million under the #2 movie.
Total domestic box office for this past weekend was $73.2 million which is 10% lower than the previous weekend because last weekend “Predator Badlands” made $40 million which is more than this weekend’s #1 AND #2 movie COMBINED.
WORLDWIDE BOX OFFICE: “Now You See Me Now You Don’t” also took the lead worldwide with a worldwide total of approx. $75.5 million making over twice as much as “ The Running Man” which made a total of $28.2 worldwide. Also, this past weekend, “One Battle After Another” finally managed to slip past $200 million. Its current worldwide total is $200.2 million.
OTHER NEWS:
Tom Cruise has wanted an Academy Award for several years. This past weekend he finally got one when he received a Governor’s Award. He was introduced by director Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu who said it wouldn’t be his last Academy Award (Tom Cruise will star in Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu currently untitled movie coming out next year).
Distributor “Neon” had a gimmick this weekend offering a 2025 Box Set and one year “Letterboxed Pro” membership to 100 people who watch ALL 4 of their movie releases showing at the AMC Burbank. The 4 films are “Keeper” (#6 on the domestic chart this weekend), “Sentimental Value” (#16 on the domestic box office only playing on 28 screens), “Sirat”, and “Arco” (both movies only playing on 2 screens this past weekend). They handed out cards saying “4 FILMS. 4 DIRECTORS. 1 THEATER. 1 WEEKEND”
Although this year still has about 6 weeks left and still has a few movies that are expected to be BIG at the box office (“Zootopia 2”, “Wicked For Good”, “Avatar Fire and Ash”), Disney already seems to be looking at 2026 by releasing new teaser trailers for next year’s live action “Moana” (link for trailer), the “Devil Wears Prada” sequel (link), and “Toy Story 5” (link). Not to be outdone, Universal release the teaser for “The Super Mario Bros” movie sequel called “The Super Mario Galaxy Movie” (link). All movies come out next spring or summer.
LITTLE BIT OF HUMOR: After YEARS of people saying the “S.A.G. awards” and people not in the industry saying, “What’s that???”……..

They just announced that starting next year the awards are named “The Actor Awards”. The show will be on Netflix on March 1, 2026.
