Hello everyone,
BOX OFFICE: Halloween, the World Series, and no new major studio releases probably helped to make this the lowest domestic weekend since March and the 5th lowest of 2025 so far. No movie made over $8.4 million. There was a small fight between the 3rd weekend of “Black Phone 2” and the 2nd weekend of “Regretting You” for #1. “Black Phone 2” ending up the winner with $8.3 million (other movies this year have made that much in Thursday night showings). “Regretting You” was second with $7.8 million. The weekend was so slow the 40th Anniversary re-release of “Back to the Future” was #6 on the domestic box office chart with $4.9 million. Last weekend’s highest per screen gross “Bugonia” added over 2000 screens and was #5 for the weekend with $5 million.
The total domestic box office was $56.4 million. Other movies released this year have made more than that by themselves on their opening weekend. That was 25% less than the previous weekend.
WORLDWIDE BOX OFFICE: Also a slow weekend internationally, but there are some notable box office numbers. “Black Phone 2” passed $100 million worldwide and “One Battle After Another” is almost past $200 million worldwide.
OTHER NEWS:
Lionsgate just acquired the rights to 2 Sylvester Stallone franchises. They made a deal with Millennium Films for the Rambo franchise which currently has a prequel movie in development and the “Expendables” franchise although there’s no movie currently in development for that franchise.
Along with the Paramount layoffs, last week Amazon announced it was laying off 14,000 employees which includes some of it’s Amazon/MGM Studios theatrical and television employees.
The only official news about a potential Warner Bros sale is that Netflix, Comcast, and Paramount are interested, but there’s rumors that Donald Trump’s pal David Ellison (who owns Paramount/Skydance) might have the upper hand in the purchase. There’s speculation that the other companies will have trouble getting FCC approval for the purchase or merger.
LITTLE BIT OF HUMOR:
Now that Halloween is over it’s time for….Christmas Movies!

Netflix just started showing a few Christmas movies on its streaming service this past weekend and is scheduled to have more of them coming in November (although most of them aren’t new movies) and Hallmark is already premiering NEW Christmas movies. Whatever happened to Thanksgiving movies (other than “Planes Trains and Automobiles” which is already starting to air on cable TV channels)?
