Hello everyone,
BOX OFFICE: The new Paul Thomas Anderson movie “One Battle After Another” is the 8th #1 movie in a row for Warner Bros but it DOESN’T continue their previous streak which was every Warner Bros movie opened to more than $30 million. This movie made $22 million which makes it director Paul Thomas Andersons best opening weekend ever. The new partly animated/partly live action movie “Gabby’s Dollhouse” came in at #2 for the weekend with $13.7 million.
Overall, the total domestic box office was slightly higher than the previous week making $74.3 million.
WORLDWIDE BOX OFFICE: This weekend was also the best worldwide opening box office for Paul Thomas Anderson. “One Battle After Another” made $48.5 worldwide. Meanwhile, “Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba – Infinity Castle” is still doing very well passing $600 million worldwide this weekend.
OTHER NEWS:
With the “One Battle After Another” box office, Warner Bros became the first studio to gross $4 billion worldwide this year. That’s the first time they passed that amount since 2019. Disney hasn’t passed that number yet, but it’s expected to with movie such as “Zootopia 2”, “Tron Aries”, and “Avatar: Fire and Ash” coming soon.
Once again, Donald Trump is threatening 100% tariffs for any movie made outside of the US although that’s somewhat confusing. For example, several movies are PRODUCED in the US by American movie studios but FILM in other countries.
Disney just announced the 2nd theatrical movie from the TV series “The Simpsons” will be released July 23, 2027 (a date previous reserved for an untitled Marvel movie).
“The Social Newtwork” sequel has added more people to it’s cast and has announced the title and the release date. The title is “The Social Reckoning” and the release date is October 9, 2026.
LITTLE BIT OF HUMOR: Director Paul Thomas Anderson recommends seeing “One Battle After Another” in Vistavision. However, there is only two theaters in the US showing it. The one in Los Angeles (coincidentally named “Vista”) was often sold out this past weekend…..

…and the other one is 3000 MILES AWAY. I guess the people who live in another city in the U.S. are out of luck.
