Hello everyone,

BOX OFFICE: The animated movie released by Netflix “KPop Demon Hunters” was the box office winner this past weekend with approx. $18-19 million but Netflix doesn’t release theatrical box office numbers so there’s no way to know EXACTLY how much the movie made.  The #2 movie “Weapons” made $15.4 million – down 37% from the previous weekend.  There was no other movie that made more than $10 million domestically this past weekend.

Overall, the domestic box office dropped down another 14% or so from the previous weekend.  The domestic total was approx. $77 million (guessing that “KPop Demon Hunters” made $18 million).

So, it looks like the summer box office won’t pass $4 billion like some people were predicting before the summer started.  Some summer hopefuls didn’t do as well as predicted.  The current summer box office stands at $3.53 billion with only 1 movie made in the US – “Lilo and Stitch” – has made over $1 billion so far.  The second highest summer movie – “Jurassic World: Rebirth” – has reached $844.5 million worldwide and the next movie – “How to Train Your Dragon” – is up to $626.8 million worldwide.

WORLDWIDE BOX OFFICE: Both “Superman” and “F1” have been approaching a worldwide total of $600 million the last couple weeks and this past weekend they managed to pass it but in different ways.  “Superman” – which is still #7 on the domestic box office chart – has made only 42.6% of its worldwide gross internationally while “F1” – which has fallen out of the domestic top 10 – has made 70% of its box office internationally including in China where it is Brad Pitts best box office movie ever and one of only 3 movies to pass $50 million so far in 2025.  “Superman” worldwide is now at $604.5 million and “F1” is now at $603.7 million.  Meanwhile, “Weapons” just passed $200 million worldwide.

OTHER NEWS:

The animated Warner Bros movie “Cat in the Hat” has been postponed from Feb 2026 to Nov 2026.

Last week the rumors said that Paramount will be cutting 2500-3000 of it’s 20,000 worldwide staff (12.5 – 15%) all at once – instead of a little every few months (like other studios have done).  They’re looking to cut approx $2 billion now that the merger is done.

LITTLE BIT OF HUMOR:  Last week Paramount made THE ENTIRE “Mission: Impossible — The Final Reckoning” FOR FREE ON YOUTUBE – sort of.

The entire script of the movie was posted online….in MORSE CODE.  It’s not posted anymore (see this link) if you know morse code.
