you should see movies in theaters

I have always said that if you want to see a movie the best place to see it – if possible – is in a movie theater.  Apparently, other people are now thinking the same thing.  My friend has been waiting to see “F1” on Apple+ but it’s still doing well in movie theaters (#9 on the domestic box office charts last weekend and almost $600 million at the worldwide box office) and it was just re-released in some IMAX theaters this past weekend, so I talked him into going to see it yesterday.

He told me that he was really glad that he saw in on a big screen and he also said that there were 3 commercials – or maybe previews (they were part of the new AMC commercial/preview mix that may play up to 30 minutes) for 3 upcoming movie re-releases for “Jaws”, “Apollo 13” and “Black Swan”.  When I looked it up online, I found there was a lot more than that those 3.

The following movies will be re-released in movies theaters in the next few months.  Not just at a small movie theater that occasionally shows classic movies, these movies will be showing in IMAX or Dolby Cinema at a multiplex near you.

  • Aug 22 – “Black Swan” 15th Anniversary Exclusive: Remastered for IMAX (showing in IMAX)
  • Aug 22 – “The 40-Year-Old Virgin” – 20th Anniversary
  • Aug 22 – “Trainwreck” – 10th Anniversary
  • Aug 25 – “Clue” 40th Anniversary (there were 3 different endings when this movie was released.  Different theaters are showing different endings).

  • Nov 5 – “Rocky IV: Rocky vs. Drago – The Director’s Cut”

(don’t hold your breath for this one…)

May 2027 – “Star Wars (A New Hope) (1977): 50th Anniversary” – They’ve already announced that the movie will be re-released in 2027 for its 50th anniversary.  No word if it will be the ORIGINAL version or the remastered version (yet).  I’m guessing it will be remastered for IMAX, Dolby Cinema, etc.

In the next 3 months, there will be over 20 re-releases. Some of them will be remastered. Some will be showing in IMAX or Dolby Cinema for the first time ever.  Some of them will only be showing for 1 show on 1 day, but others will be playing for a week or more in premium formats.  So, if you haven’t seen any of those movies in a movie theater on a big screen, I recommended going to a movie theater to see them.
