Hello everyone,

BOX OFFICE: In what will probably be the last movie to open with an $100+ opening weekend this summer, “The Fantastic Four: First Steps” had an opening weekend of $117 million.  This is fourth highest opening weekend of 2025 so far (amazingly “The Minecraft Movie” is still #1 followed by “Lilo & Stitch” and “Superman”).  “Superman” was #2 this past weekend with $24 million (down 57.5% from the previous weekend) and is approaching $300 million total domestic box office (currently at $290 million).  “Jurassic World Rebirth” was #3 with $13.2 million which is down 44.3% from the previous weekend.  It’s domestic total just passed $300 million.  4th is “F1” with $6.3 million which is down 36% on its 5th weekend but it’s domestic total is still a low $165 million.  The two new movies from the previous weekend both took nosedives.  “Smurfs” went down approx. 51% to $5.4 million and “I Know What You Did Last Summer” went down 60% to $2.9 million.

Overall, mostly thanks to “The Fantastic Four: First Steps”, the total domestic box office grew to $184 million which is approx. 37% higher than the previous weekend.

WORLDWIDE BOX OFFICE: “The Fantastic Four: First Steps” made approx. $100 million internationally so it’s global total is $218 million.  Internationally, it’s the biggest superhero movie opening weekend of 2025 so far.  13% ahead of “Thunderbolts*”, 11% ahead of “Superman” and 4% above “Captain America: Brave New World”.  “Superman” and “F1” just passed $500 million worldwide total, “Jurassic World Rebirth” just passed $700 million worldwide total, and “How to Train Your Dragon” just passed $600 million worldwide total.

OTHER NEWS:

The next “Meet the Parents” movie that will start shooting soon and open in Nov 2026 now has a title: “Focker In Law”  Most of the original cast – including Robert De Niro and Ben Stiller and returning for the sequel but Barbara Streisand and Dustin Hoffman from the 2nd and 3rd movie are not yet confirmed.  Ariana Grande is in the new movie in an unknown role.

Now that the FCC cleared the merger.  The merger of Paramount and Skydance is scheduled to be completed Aug 7 (a little over a week from now)

On the other hand, after the separation, “Warner Bros Discovery” company is going back to being called “Warner Bros”

LITTLE BIT OF HUMOR:

RIP Hulk Hogan.

I was wondering why “Rocky III” was on TV a few times this past weekend.  It was his first and probably the biggest movie he was ever in.  Stallone is qoted as saying that’s really him – not a stuntman – in the shot above.
