Hello everyone,

BOX OFFICE: The new movies opening this weekend were no match for the previous “Superman” and “Jurassic World Rebirth”.  Superman was again #1 movie this past weekend with $58.5 million which is down 53% from its opening weekend.  Its domestic total has zoomed past $235 million after it’s 2nd weekend.  #2 was still “Jurassic World Rebirth” with $23.7 million which is down 41% from the previous weekend.  Its domestic total has zoomed past $275 million after it’s 3rd weekend.  The reboot movie “I Know What You Did Last Summer” came in at #3 for its opening weekend with a low $12.7 million followed by another reboot “The Smurfs” which opened with $11 million.

Overall, the total domestic box office dropped by about one third from its $201 million domestic total last weekend to $133.4 million this past weekend.

WORLDWIDE BOX OFFICE: The movies that did well internationally last weekend continued to dominate this weekend.  “Superman” has flown past $400 at the worldwide box office, “Jurassic World Rebirth” zoomed to almost $650 million worldwide after it’s 3rd weekend.  “F1” is still doing pretty strong reaching a worldwide box office of $460 million.  Also, “Lilo and Stitch” is now the first 2025 US movie release to pass $1 BILLION at the worldwide box office.  The new movies didn’t do so well internationally.  “Smurfs” got a worldwide total of $33.6 million and “I Know What You Did Last Summer” made a worldwide total of $24.4 million.

OTHER NEWS:

Christopher Nolans next movie “The Odyssey” is still filming and is scheduled for release IN ONE YEAR but that didn’t stop some movie theaters that will be showing it in IMAX 70mm to start selling advance tickets 1 year in advance.  This is very questionable to me since the movie isn’t even finished filming yet.  What happens if production gets delayed for some reason, what happens if a movie theater that sold advance tickets goes bankrupt and shuts down in the next 12 months (will they re-open for just 1 day?), and most importantly who keeps the money from all the advance ticket sales?  Someone needs to hold onto it for a little while in case something happens and the movie doesn’t open in 1 year.  Whoever is holding the money will be making a lot of extra money (interest) on the ticket sale money in the next 12 months.

Meanwhile, a movie that – from what I understand – is almost completed (except for some CGI) will be premiering its new trailer next weekend.  The “Avatar Fire and Ash” new teaser trailer will be playing only with “The Fantastic Four: First Steps” next weekend before going online next week.  If the “The Odyssey” advance ticket sales are the new normal we may be seeing tickets for the 4th Avatar movie go on sale sometime in 2027 although it’s currently not scheduled for release until 2029

LITTLE BIT OF HUMOR:

Last week there was major flooding in New York City for a day or two.

It was so bad it turned the AMC Lincoln Square multiplex into a rainforest for a little while (click on the photo above to see video).
