saidi’s take – 7/15/2025

Hello everyone,

BOX OFFICE: “Superman” soared to the 3rd highest opening weekend of 2025 so far with $125 million.  “Jurassic World: Rebirth” – which lost a lot of it’s IMAX, Dolby Vision, and other premium theaters to “Superman” – sunk 56% to make $40 million for 2nd place this past weekend.  “F1” is still doing fairly strong holding on to the #3 spot of the top 10 going down approx. 49% to make $13 million for it’s 3rd weekend, although it’s total domestic box office is only $136 million.  “Superman” almost passed that in its opening weekend and “Jurassic World Rebirth” has almost double it with a total domestic box office of $232 million after it’s 2nd weekend. 

Thanks mostly to “Superman” and “Jurassic World: Rebirth”, the total domestic box office this past weekend managed to just barely reach $200 million.  A 29% rise from the previous weekend.

WORLDWIDE BOX OFFICE: “Superman” also did fairly strong in several foreign countries making $95 internationally and a worldwide total of $220 million.  After it’s 2nd weekend, “Jurassic World Rebirth” is over double that amount with a worldwide total of $532 million.  Meanwhile, “Lilo and Stitch” is getting very close to becoming the first US movie release of 2025 to pass $1 billion worldwide.  Its global total is now at $995 million.

OTHER NEWS:

Possibly due to the disappointing box office of the recent “Megan 2.0” (current domestic box office total of $22 million after 3 weeks), it was announced that Bloomhouse has laid off about 6 of the 100 people on their film and television staff.  The studio is still continuing to work on it’s upcoming releases which includes “Black Phone 2”, opening Oct. 17, and “Five Nights At Freddy’s 2”, releasing Dec. 5.

The 3rd movie in the “Knives Out” franchise: “Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery” is now scheduled to have its theatrical premiere as the opening film of the 69th BFI London Film Festival, running from October 8 to 19.

LITTLE BIT OF HUMOR: Some MAGA people have been commenting that Superman is an illegal immigrant…while others are saying he is an orphan that has been adopted by an American couple….

I’m on Nathan Fillions side on this one.  IT’S JUST A MOVIE.  SUPERMAN ISN’T A REAL PERSON!!!!!!!
