This post is dedicated to Michael Madsen who passed away last week. Incredible actor mostly known for several Quentin Tarantino movies.
BOX OFFICE: “Jurassic World: Rebirth” dominated the weekend box office with $147 million since it opened last Wednesday and $92 million over the 3-day weekend. That’s the 3rd best fourth of July 5-day weekend (with movies opening on Wednesday). “F1” went down approx. 55% with $25 million (3-day) for 2nd. It just rose past $100 million domestic total. “How to Train Your Dragon” went down 42.5% to $11.2 million (3-day). That movie passed $225 domestic total.
Overall the 3-day weekend was $155 million which is a 22% rise from the previous 3 day weekend.
WORLDWIDE BOX OFFICE: “Jurassic World Rebirth” also did an impressive $174 million internationally. That’s the best international opening of 2025 (so far) for an American movie (“Ne Zha 2” was the biggest). It’s worldwide total is $322 million which makes it the 2nd biggest worldwide opening for the franchise (“Jurassic World” made $525.5 million). It was the 2nd biggest opening weekend in China for an American movie this year so far (“Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning” is the highest). “F1” also continued to do well internationally approaching a worldwide total of $300 million. “How to Train Your Dragon” is now over $500 million worldwide and “Lilo and Stich” is now the biggest American movie of 2025 worldwide with $975 million.
OTHER NEWS:
With the success of “Jurassic World Rebirth”, Scarlett Johansson is now the top grossing box office actor all time if you add up the box office of all the movies she’s starred in it equals $14.8 billion, slightly higher than the previous #1 of $14.6 billion for Samuel L Jackson.
AMC Theaters has started prominently showing that the “feature starts 25-30 minutes after listed showtime” on their website after adding more ads which now play with the right before the movie starts. That time was previously only for “trailers” (which – basically – are just extended commercials for upcoming movies). Since there’s now commercials playing in that time some customers have requested listed a 2nd time of when the actual movie starts. The new listing has upset movie studios because it means – thanks to reserve seating – that customers can skip all the trailers and sit down right before the movie starts.
LITTLE BIT OF HUMOR:
Today’s little bit of humor is about the time I saw Michael Madsen in person. I saw him several years ago at a Best Buy buying a TV. I didn’t remember who he was at first so I started at his face for a few minutes. He didn’t seem to like that….

I completely understand that celebrities hate when people stare at them. Bob Seger has a song (which Metallica later covered) called “Turn the Page” with the lyrics…
Well, you walk into a restaurant all strung out from the road
And you feel the eyes upon you as you’re shakin’ off the cold
You pretend it doesn’t bother you but you just want to explode
Most times you can’t hear ’em talk, other times you can
…and Judy Greer wrote a book called “I Don’t Know What You Know Me From”.
However, I ABSOULUTELY HATE IT when I see someone that I recognize but I don’t remember why I recognize the person.
Sorry if I upset you, Michael. RIP.
