saidi’s take – 6/9/2025

Hello everyone,

BOX OFFICE: The new movie “Ballerina” (full title “From the World of John Wick: Ballerina”) didn’t make enough to dethrone the leading movie of the last two weeks but it did manage to beat the #2 movie.  “Lilo and Stitch” went down approx. 48% on its 3rd weekend making $32.3 million for the #1 spot again.  It’s now at $335 domestic total.  The new movie “From the World of John Wick: Ballerina” made $24.5 million on its opening weekend.  “Mission Impossible – The Final Reckoning” sunk down to 3rd losing 45% of the previous weekends box office to make $14.8 million.  Its domestic total is now at $150 million (less than half of “Lilo and Stitch”).  Also, last weekend’s big, limited release went up to almost 1700 screens this weekend and rose to #7 on the box office chart with $6.3 million (OVER 1000% box office increase from the previous weekend).

WORLDWIDE BOX OFFICE: “Lilo and Stitch” is also still going strong worldwide making another $68 million in foreign countries.  Its global total is now approaching $775 million.  “Mission Impossible – The Final Reckoning” is also still doing well internationally making another $40.6 million for a worldwide total of $450 million.  “Ballerina” did about as well internationally as it did domestically making $26 million in foreign countries for a worldwide total of $50 million.

OTHER NEWS:

The proposed major studio project in Las Vegas that Warner Bros and Sony Pictures were both going to support is either on hold or is dead since the Nevada State legislature ended their term last week without voting on a subsidy to help fund it.

AMC recently announced that part of their new deal with National CineMedia would mean running ads BETWEEN the trailers – the spot was previously only for movie trailers and movie theater spots (like concession stand ads).  They decided against doing that approx. 6 years ago – because they though it would upset moviegoers – but they have now apparently changed their minds.  There will even be a “platinum spot” which will be an ad showing RIGHT BEFORE the feature film starts.

LITTLE BIT OF HUMOR:

I’d like to see “F2” and “F3”.  I wonder which movie transitions the story from a racing movie to a group of superheroes.  I also wonder which superhero or supervillain Brad Pitt would be.
