Hello everyone,

BOX OFFICE: The #1 movie this past weekend was the new release “Final Destination: Bloodlines” which broke the franchise record for best opening weekend with $51.6 million.  #2 was “Thunderbolts*” which went down about 370 screens due to the new releases and went down approx. 49% from last weekend to $16.6 million.  Despite adding 16 screens – mostly 70mm IMAX screens – “Sinners” still went down approx. 31% to $15.2 million.  That decline was lower than the previous weekends (33%) but “Thunderbolts*” was in less screens this past weekend and its decline was lower than the decline of the previous weekend (56.5%).

The total domestic box office was $104.3 million which was approx. 25% increase from the previous weekend, mostly thanks to the new “Final Destination Bloodlines”.

WORLDWIDE BOX OFFICE: “Final Destination: Bloodlines” did well internationally too.  It’s opening weekend made a worldwide total of $102 million so it made about as much in foreign countries as it did domestically.  Meanwhile, “A Minecraft Movie” might hit $1 Billion by the end of this month.  It’s worldwide total is now $930 million.  “Thunderbolts*” and “Sinners” are still pretty close for the #4 movie of 2025 (so far).  “Thunderbolts^” is now at $325 million and “Sinners” is at $316 million.  (#1 is still the $2 BILLION “Ne Zha 2”, #2 is “A Minecraft Movie” and #3 is “Captain America Brave New World” with $415 million).  However, both of those movies may be knocked into a race for 5th or 6th if the new “Mission Impossible” movie or the live action “Lilo and Stitch” makes over $330 million this Memorial Day weekend.

OTHER NEWS:

The Cannes film festival is happening right now so there’s a lot of news about one movie getting a # minute standing ovation and another movie getting a # minute standing ovation such as Spike Lee’s new movie “Highest 2 Lowest” starring Denzel Washington (6 minute), Wes Andersons new movie “The Phoenician Scheme” (7.5 minute), and the Robert Pattinson/Jennifer Lawrence starring movie “Die My Love” (9 minute).

LITTLE BIT OF HUMOR:

I have stared at this photo of David O Russell’s next movie “Madden” for a long time….

I know that’s Nicholas Cage on the right as John Madden but I still can’t believe that’s CHRISTIAN BALE on the left as Raiders owner Al Davis.
