Hello everyone,
BOX OFFICE: The two new movies didn’t do very well this weekend. No movie made more than $9 million. It was a 3-way race for the top of the box office that ended up coming less than $1.5 million apart. The new movie “Novocaine” came out on top with $8.8 million. #2 was another new movie “Black Bag” which made $7.6 million. #3 was last weeks #1 “Mickey 17” which went down approx. 61% and made $7.4 million.
Overall there a new lowest domestic weekend for 2025. The total domestic weekend was approx. $51.56 million which is down approx. 8% down from the previous weekend
WORLDWIDE BOX OFFICE: Worldwide the big news is still the Chinese movie “Ne Zha 2” which is now the 5th highest movie at the worldwide box office with $2.08 BILLION – over $2 billion of that is from China alone. It’s only made $19.6 movie domestically. Other than that movie, the biggest movie of the weekend at the foreign box office is “Mickey 17” which made another $15.6 million internationally for a worldwide total of $90 million. “Black Bag” worldwide opening weekend was $11.8 million, and “Novocaine” worldwide opening weekend was $10.5 million.
OTHER NEWS:
2 weeks since “Anora” director Sean Baker’s Academy Awards night plea to not forget about independent movie theaters, it looks like 2 independent movies theaters will be closing. The “Cinelounge” in L.A. is shutting its doors and the “O Cinema” in Miama may be forced to close after the Miami Beach Mayor threat when the movie theater showed the controversial Academy Award winning documentary “No Other Land”
Apparently, the next “Saw” movie “Saw XI” hasn’t even started filming yet although it was originally scheduled for release last year and then re-scheduled for release this fall. The writing partners turned in a draft of the script but they claim there’s “inter-squabbling” about the sequel.
In two weeks, the annual CinemaCon convention starts in Las Vegas and it looks like it’s going to be a big one. Sony Pictures, Lionsgate, Warner Bros, Angel Studios, Universal, Amazon/MGM, Paramount, and Disney all have presentations scheduled, there will be a screening of the live action “How To Train Your Dragon”, and the director and cast of the “Running Man” remake will be part of a luncheon discussion.
LITTLE BIT OF HUMOR:
Since it’s St Patricks Day – For those who never read the Stephen King book and might be wondering……

….except that you wouldn’t understand the joke unless you know the book.
