Hello everyone,
BOX OFFICE: “Captain America Brave New World” sunk approx. 68% from its opening weekend to make $28 million this past weekend. That’s double the amount of the #2 movie – the just released “The Monkey” which made $14 million this past weekend despite the bad reviews.
Overall, the total domestic box office was $76.8 million which is down approx. 50% from the previous 3-day weekend.
WORLDWIDE BOX OFFICE: A few movies are closing in on worldwide benchmark numbers. “Captain America Brave New World” is quickly approaching a worldwide total of $300 million after less than 2 weeks in theaters, “Mufasa: The Lion King” has now passed $700 million worldwide, and “Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy” has passed $65 million worldwide WITHOUT playing in any movie theaters domestically.
MAJOR MOVIE INDUSTRY NEWS: Although there has been no official press release from Technicolor yet, it seems like the entire company may be going out of business soon. The news started with employees of US offices posting a “WARN” (Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification) notice from Technicolor home offices that says that the company might start shutting down offices as early as today (Monday Feb 24). No entertainment news websites mentioned it on Saturday though (probably waiting for a confirmation from Technicolor). Then on Sunday, one news website – “Reel 360 News” – mentioned that 3 companies owned by Technicolor – The Mill, MPC Advertising, and Mikros Animation – will be shutting down their offices soon. They referenced the email that employees received on Friday. After that, some of the major entertainment news websites – including Variety and Deadline – posted stories referencing the story from the other news website.
On Monday morning (Feb 24) there were reports that Technicolor offices in the UK would file for “Administration” and Technicolor offices in France have “applied to open receivership proceedings”. This basically means that the offices in both countries would start shutting down.
The only official announcement so far has been from the UK “administrators” – the people “appointed to take control of a company and its assets to find a solution — via sale or other means — that will allow the company to continue operating”. They announced today that the majority of the 440 Technicolor UK employees have been “made redundant”. Work at almost all the Technicolor companies in the UK will stop immediately.
No official announcement from Technicolor yet – other than the emails to the staff – but it looks like the company that has been synonymous with the motion picture industry for over a century – movies used to say “Color by Technicolor” – and now has departments that work on postproduction, VFX, animation, and even games might be closing soon.

The currently untitled “Spider Man” sequel is moving a week later from July 24 to July 31, 2026. Pushing it a week farther from Christopher Nolans “The Odyssey” (which will probably take all the IMAX screens around the world when it opens).
Steven Spielberg’s next movie which is currently untitled has been pushed from May 15 to June 12, 2026. It will take the place of the next movie directed by “Everything Everywhere All at Once” directors Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert. A new release date foe that movie will be announced soon. Spielberg’s movie will now be released 1 week before the next Toy Story sequel. In May, it would have had major competition coming out between “Avengers Doomsday” and “The Mandalorian and Grogu” movies.
LITTLE BIT OF HUMOR:

At first the photo is terrible – bare feet in a movie theater!?!?!?! – but then I read the line underneath the photo when I saw it online….
“Doesn’t this look like Harrison Ford and Calista Flockheart (his wife) from the back????” Maybe he was preparing to be Red Hulk?
