Hello everyone,

BOX OFFICE: “Captain America Brave New World” officially became the first blockbuster of 2025 making $100 million (4-day) and $88.8 million (3-day).  The other new movie “Paddington in Peru” was a distant second with $16 million (4-day) and $12.7 million (3-day).  Also the Chinese movie “Ne Zha 2”, which already made over a billion in China alone, was #5 with $8.3 million (4-day) and $7.2 million (3-day)

Overall, the total domestic box office made approx. $153 million which is approx. $100 million more than the previous 3-day weekend (up 184%).  It’s the first weekend of 2025 that passed $100 million.  The 4-day weekend was $178 million.

WORLDWIDE BOX OFFICE: Worldwide, “Captain America Brave New World” was also #1 making approx. $192 million worldwide.  Easily becoming the #1 movie of 2025 so far (it’s $110 million over the #2 movie – “Dog Man”).  “Paddington In Peru” (which is technically a 2024 release since it was released in the UK last year) is now at $131 million worldwide.  “Ne Zha 2” which has already passed $1 billion just by playing in China (it’s still the #1 movie in that country) is now the #3 animated movie ever at the worldwide box office with $1.63 BILLION worldwide.  Also, “Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy” has a worldwide total of $35.5 million in foreign countries.  It didn’t open in many movie theaters domestically – it’s playing on Peacock.

OTHER NEWS:

Pixars movie this summer “Elio” has been pushed back 1 week from June 13 to June 20, possibly to get away from the live action remake of “How to Train Your Dragon” also opening on June 13.  Plus, it gives Disneys live action remake “Lilo & Stitch” and extra week in theaters since it opens just a couple weeks before on May 23.

LITTLE BIT OF HUMOR:

That reminds me of a question I’ve always had about the “Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory” movie:  Did he create the tunnel just for the tour of the factory or has it ALWAYS been there?  If he built it before the tour, then WHY did he build it?  He wanted to scare the Oompa Loompas?
