Hello everyone,

The recent fires all over Los Angeles this past week have affected a lot of things in the movie industry.. Places were closed for a few days (or for a while if they’re in the fire zones), events were cancelled, some events were rescheduled.  Here’s a list of some things….

Awards Season:

  • The Screen Actors Guild nominations were announced via a press release instead of the usual press event on Wed morning.
  • The PGA nomination announcements were postponed to Jan 12.
  • The WGA nomination announcements were postponed to Jan 13.
  • The AARP (Movies for Grownups) Awards scheduled for tomorrow (Jan 11) have been postponed.  The new date hasn’t been announced yet.
  • The Critics’ Choice Awards scheduled for this Sunday (Jan 12) will now happen on Jan 26th.
  • The “BAFTA Tea Party” the annual event where the British Academy members have a chance to speak to actors or filmmakers in Los Angeles has been cancelled.  It was scheduled for tomorrow (Jan 11)
  • The American Cinematheque “Tribute to the Crafts” award scheduled for Jan 9 have been postponed.  Rescheduled date hasn’t been announced yet.
  • The Academy Award nominations scheduled for Jan 17 have been pushed to Jan 19.

Movie Premieres:

  • The premiere of the movie “One of Them Days” was cancelled.
  • The premiere of “The Last Showgirl” scheduled for Jan 8 has been cancelled
  • The premiere of “Better Man” scheduled for Jan 10 has been cancelled.
  • The premiere of “Wolf Man” scheduled for Jan 7 has been cancelled
  • The premiere of “Unstoppable” scheduled for Jan 7 has been cancelled.

Closures:

  • Universal Studios and Universal Citywalk (including the AMC Universal multiplex) closed for a couple days but they’ve reopened (for now – they could close again if the winds pick up).
  • Movie theaters in current fire areas – Pacific Palisades, Malibu, Altadena, etc – will be closed for awhile but I haven’t heard of any burnt down yet.
  • There was a fire in the hills north of Hollywood Blvd on Wed night which made the movie theaters and the Pantages theater on Hollywood Blvd close.  I believe most of them are now re-open.
  • They stopped filming some TV shows – including Jimmy Kimmel Live and The Price is Right – and some movie productions a few days this past week due to the fires and the smoke in the air.

PROPERTY LOST

  • Some movie filming locations have burned down in Altadena, Malibu, and Pacific Palisades including the Palisades High School (where Freaky Friday (2003) and Carrie (1976), and other things were filmed).
  • Some actors and filmmakers have lost their homes in the fires including Billy Crystal, Mel Gibson, Anthony Hopkins, Miles Teller, Ben Affleck, and Jamie Lee Curtis

Hopefully, the fires won’t continue for much longer.
