Hello everyone,

BOX OFFICE: Last weeks box office disappointment “Joker: Folie à Deux” broke a record in its 2nd weekend.  It had one of the worst 2nd weekend drops EVER going down over 81% from its first weekend.  It was #4 this past holiday weekend with approx. $7 million (3-day) and approx. $7.9 weekend (4-day).  This weekends #1 movie was surprisingly a different clown movie – “Terrifier 3” – which made almost $19 million (3-day) and approx. $21.5 million (4-day).  That’s fairly impressive since it was only on approx. 2500 screens (“Joker: Folie à Deux” was on over 4,100 screens).  Last week’s #2 movie “The Wild Robot” was #3 this weekend going down only 25% and making $14 million (3-day) and $17.5 (r-day).  “Saturday Night”, which did very well in limited release the last couple weeks seems to be lagging now that it’s on over 2300 screens.  It made $3.4 million (3-day) and almost $4 million (4-day).  Another poor opening this past weekend was “The Apprentice”.  Despite Trumps comments about the movie, it didn’t bring in many people (I believe Trump hasn’t seen it).  It was #10 with approx. $1.6 million (3-day) and approx. $1.9 million (4-day).  On approx. 1740 screens, that means it made less than $950 per screen.  The big per screen average this past weekend was the romantic drama “We Live In Time” which was only 5 screens but made over $45000 per screen for the 3-day and it’s average increased to over $51000 for the 4-day.

Overall, the 3 day domestic weekend total was down -16.8% from the previous weekend to almost $73 million.  This was the 41st weekend of this year.  Last year the 4-day weekend was on the 40th weekend which made almost the same amount.  The 2023 3-day domestic total of the holiday weekend (weekend 40) was almost $73 million too.

WORLDWIDE: “Joker: Folie à Deux” also had a disappointing 2nd weekend internationally making $22.7 million in foreign countries for a worldwide total of $165.3 (not including the 4th day domestically).  In better news, the #2 movie of the year so far just became the ALL TIME #20 movie.  “Deadpool and Wolverine” is now at $1.3347 billion which means it just slipped by “Star Wars Episode VIII – The Last Jedi” which has $1.3344 billion.

OTHER NEWS:

The Dolby Theatre has a new owner.  The formerly named “Hollywood and Highland” complex – now called Ovation – which is connected to the theater was sold a few years ago for $325 million but DIDN’T include the Dolby.  Now the Dolby Theatre has also been purchased.  The new owners – Jebs Hollywood Entertainment is actually a group of SEVERAL PEOPLE (including Elie Samaha owner-operator of Yamashiro restaurant and leader of the owner-operator team at the Dolby-adjacent TCL Chinese Theater and Chinese Six; former Sony Pictures Entertainment president Jeff Sagansky; Sherwin Jarol, CEO of SMB Equities; Jonah Lazowski, Two Girls Holdings; and Sheikh Abdulla Bin Mohamed Al Qasimi, a member of the ruling Al Qasimi family in the United Arab Emirates, through his investment firm, Master Investment Group).  The Academy approved the sale – which was rumored to be around $70 million – because they have a deal to continue to have the Academy Awards show at the theater through 2028 at least.

Speaking of the Academy Awards, there’s new rumors that they’re interested in having the power couple of the year – Hugh Jackman and Ryan Reynolds – as the hosts for next years ceremony but nothing is confimed yet.

According to a new announcement by Barco, the DolbyVision high dynamic range (HDR) IS NOT REALLY HDR “…it’s more accurately described as extended dynamic range: and he declares HDR by Barco to be, simply, better.”  Barco is slowly rolling out their “HDR by Barco” – also known as “Barco Light Steering”.  Currently “Transformers One” is playing with their new system at 5 theaters across the country including one at the Regal Times Square in New York City and the “AMC Americana at Brand” which is close to Los Angeles (actually in Glendale, Ca).

LITTLE BIT OF HUMOR:

Wait a minute.  I know he can change suits.  You see him change his suit in BOTH MOVIES.  What is so special about that suit??????
