Hello everyone,
BOX OFFICE: “Beetlejuice Beetlejuice” retained the #1 spot for its 2nd weekend going down about 54% to make $51 million. That put’s it’s 2-week total to $187 million which makes it the #9 domestic movie of 2024 so far. The new movie “Speak No Evil” was #2 but it made about $11 million which is about 20% of what the #1 movie made. No other movie made more than $5 million. The other wide release “The Killers Game” sunk to #6 of the top 10 with approx. $2.7 million (only about $1000 per screen over the weekend). For the first time since it opened, “Deadpool and Wolverine” wasn’t #1 or #2 for the weekend. It was #4 with $3.8 million. The #3 movie was the limited independent release “Am I Racist?” which made around $4.5 million.
Overall, the total domestic box office sank down about 37% from the previous weekend to about $92 million total but that’s almost 33% more than the same weekend last year which had a total of about $61 million.
WORLDWIDE: Internationally, “Beetlejuice Beetlejuice” made about $28 million making it’s worldwide total $264 million. The worldwide total of the new release “Speak No Evil” is approx. $21 million. The other notable box office for the weekend is “Deadpool and Wolverine” slipped past $1.3 billion – but it’s still about $380 million behind the #1 worldwide movie of 2024 “Inside Out 2”.
RELEASE DATE CHANGES: A few months ago some were saying it was “doubtful” that Clint Eastwoods new movie “Juror #2” – which might be his final movie (although they’ve said that before) – WOULDN’T be coming out in 2024. However, I was thinking there was a chance it would since it finished principal photography over the summer and his movies normally don’t have much CGI in them. Last week they announced that the movie will premiere at the AFI Film Fest at the end of October and then have an initial limited release on Nov 1.
Paramount now has another award hopeful (along with “Gladiator 2”) releasing at the end of this year. They just made a deal to release “September 5” about the massacre at the 72 Olympics in Munich. The movie had a great response at recent film festivals with some comparing it to the award winning “Argo” and “Spotlight”. Paramount scheduled the movies initial limited theatrical release for Nov 27.
Although it’s still over a year away, Universal has decided to push back the release of “Wicked Part 2” from Nov 26, 2025 to Nov 21, 2025. It might be because Disney has “Zootopia 2” scheduled for Nov 26 – just like they have “Moana 2” scheduled for the Thanksgiving weekend this year.
LITTLE BIT OF HUMOR:
Here’s another question about “Titanic”…

It’s true. The older Rose boards the ship with HER GRANDDAUGHTER Lizzy Calvert. So, she must have gotten married, had at least one child, and had at least one granddaughter but NONE OF THOSE PEOPLE mean as much to her as a guy she knew for a few days.
