Hello everyone,
This email is dedicated to the great James Earl Jones who passed away recently. He was great in everything he did even if you only heard his voice (as Darth Vader).
BOX OFFICE: The week after the traditional end of the summer movie season the box office surged higher than it has been since early August. Mostly thanks to “Beetlejuice Beetlejuice” which shot above predictions to make $111 million. That’s the 2nd highest opening weekend in September and the highest opening weekend for Warner Bros so far this year. The rest of the movies are still on a post-summer low with no movie making more than $10 million. #2 was “Deadpool and Wolverine” with just $7 million (about 6% of the “Beetlejuice Beetlejuice” box office).
The total domestic box office was $147 million which is almost 80% higher than the previous weekend and 55% higher than the same weekend last year when Warner Bros “The Nun 2” was released.
WORLDWIDE BOX OFFICE: Internationally, “Beetlejuice Beetlejuice” made $35 million for a worldwide total of $145 million. This past weekend Disney passed a worldwide total of $4 BILLION although they only released 5 movies this year so far – 3 movies from Fox (“The First Omen”, “Alien Romulus”, and “Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes”), “Deadpool and Wolverine” (which Marvel inherited from Fox), and the current #1 movie of 2024 “Inside Out 2”.
OTHER NEWS:
The postponed sequel “Horizon: An American Saga – Chapter 2” screened at the Venice Film Festival last week. Although the reviews weren’t so good, Kevin Costner said that he preferred that the movie wasn’t released so close to the first chapter of the movie. He said it should still be released in movie theaters by the end of this year.
Since the upcoming “Wolfs” starring George Clooney and Brad Pitt won’t have a wide release when it opens in a couple weeks and will premiere on Apple TV just a week after playing in movie theaters, Sony Pictures – who is distributing the movie theatrically – decided to use the extra movie theater screens that won’t be showing that movie to show “Saturday Night”. That movie will now have a limited release on Sept 27 before gradually going wider until the movie opens everywhere on Oct 10. Sony was encouraged by the positive reviews for the movie when it recently screened at Telluride Film Festival.
LITTLE BIT OF HUMOR:

I would be interested in seeing this movie, but I wouldn’t call it the perfect sequel. I don’t think it would be suitable for families if it’s about what I think it’s about (the actor who did the voice of Carl has passed away).
