Hello everyone,

BOX OFFICE: Three new openings got the top 3 spots in this weekend’s box office.  #1 was “The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes” with $44.6 million.  #2 was “Trolls Band Together” with $30 million, and “Thanksgiving” made a disappointing $10.3 million.  It BARELY passed last week’s #1 movie which fell a whopping 78% (biggest second weekend drop for a Marvel movie ever) to make $10.1 million.  The odd thing is that the news is saying $44.6 million is a decent opening for The Hunger Games reboot movie although it’s around $2 MILLION LOWER than last weeks “The Marvels” which they called “a bomb”.  For per screen average, the new release “Saltburn” which is only playing in 7 theaters right now made a whopping $46,000 per screen for a total of $322 thousand.  One of the best limited opening box office of the year.

WORLDWIDE BOX OFFICE: “The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes” was the top movie worldwide this past weekend with a worldwide gross of almost $100 million however “Trolls Band Together” – which has been playing in some foreign countries for a few weeks – has a worldwide total slightly higher with $108 million.  After two weekends, “The Marvels” has a worldwide total just over $160 million mostly thanks to the international total reaching approximately $100 million.

STRIKE NEWS: Apparently, there is a little bit of strike news left since the actors haven’t officially approved the new contract yet (although most news says they will).  The news reported that some of the 14% of the SAG-AFTRA board that voted against the contract said they voted against it because they think there should be limits on how much movies and TV shows can use AI.

Also, some actors – especially Justine Bateman are wondering about the still unreleased full details of the new contract.  Especially the details of AI.  Like how much (or how little) compensation the actor will get if they used their likeness in AI.

OTHER NEWS: Two more movies shifted their released dates recently.  Universals “The Fall Guy” movie moved from March 1 to May 3, which is the date that “Deadpool 3” was previously going to be released on before it was pushed to later in the summer.  Then, Warner Bros “Dune Part 2” moved UP 2 weeks.  It will now open on March 1 which is the date that “The Fall Guy” was previously going to open on.

Two bits of award show news:  The Golden Globe Awards which some people thought would be going away about a year ago (I had said it should go away because there’s no point in having that award show anymore with all the other award ceremonies), just announced that it will show on CBS and Paramount+ in January 2024.

The other news is that the Academy Awards announced that Jimmy Kimmel will be hosting the awards shows for the 4th time next year.

LITTLE BIT OF HUMOR:

WHAT!?!?  They should have included that in the new contracts with the writers and/or the actors.  IT’S TIME TO GO BACK ON STRIKE!!!!!!!
