Hello everyone,

BOX OFFICE: Since “Dune Part 2” was postponed until next year, this past weekend was one of the lowest box office weekends of the year.  No movie made more than $20 million and the domestic overall total for the weekend was approx. $56 million.  The #1 movie was “Five Nights at Freddy’s” again which sank over 75% from its opening weekend to make approx. $19 million although it did go past $110 million in its total domestic box office.

The “Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour” movie – which was predicted to energize the box office in Oct – is still sinking making only $13 million this past weekend for a domestic total of $165 so far (I believe this past weekend was supposed to be the final weekend the movie showed, but I’m not sure).  Since “Dune Part 2” didn’t open in IMAX, “Oppenheimer” reopened in several IMAX theaters this past weekend – some of them showing it in 70mm IMAX film again  – but fizzled.

It added 309 theaters but only made approx. half a million dollars over the weekend (it made about $1000 per screen).  So it’s no closer to reaching that $1 BILLION worldwide.  It’s at just under $325 million domestically and just under $948 worldwide.  The per screen average #1 was “The Holdovers” again which made approx. $8875 per screen on 64 screens.  It opens wide next weekend.

WORLDWIDE BOX OFFICE.  Worldwide “Five Nights at Freddy’s” went past $215 million total after two weekends which is just $16 million under what Taylor Swifts movie has made in 4 weeks since “Freddy’s” passed $100 million internationally AND domestically (“Taylor Swift The Eras Tour” has only made $65 million International total so far).

STRIKE NEWS: The actors union took the entire weekend to “look through” the “last, best, and final” proposal from the studios.  There were rumors this morning that they took awhile because they weren’t pleased with it.  Some were thinking they may still accept an OK contract instead of having people on strike longer (just like some people think the writers accepted a just OK new contract when they were given their “last, best, and final” contract.  Then actor Zachary Quinto spoke about it on a post on his Instagram telling the union NOT accept a contract that’s not good enough.

This afternoon, the actors guild finally responded that the latest proposal from the studios is still far apart from what they requested so the strike isn’t over yet.  I guess the studios proposal won’t their “last”.  No word on when the actors and the studio will meet again.  I wouldn’t be surprised if the studios release their latest proposal to the public (like they did previously with the writers strike and the actors strike).

OTHER NEWS: Quentin Tarantino is re-opening the Vista theater in Hollywood.  The theater has been closed since the start of the pandemic and then was bought by Quentin Tarantino back in 2021 who reportedly did an extensive remodel.  The first movie screening will be “True Romance” (which was partly filmed in front of the movie theater) THIS SAT – NOV 11 which will be hosted by Tarantino.  After that, the theater will continue to show movies ON FILM (a requirement by Tarantino) including “Thanksgiving” the following week and “Napoleon” (in 70mm) the week after that.  They said that it would be different from the New Beverly Theater that Tarantino also owns because it will show first run movies – as long as there’s a film print available.

Little bit of humor….

IMPRESSIVE resume for a dog.  I wonder if it went to the dogs head.  Maybe the dog wanted a stunt double for the scenes in the well in “Silence of the Lambs”.
