BOX OFFICE: The Taylor Swift movie “Taylor Swift The Eras Tour” was #1 this weekend again but the 2nd weekend decline was somewhat staggering.  It made approx. $33 million which is an approx. 64% drop.  There are some fans that are already looking for when and where the movie will be available to stream online.  Although people are still praising it for being the #1 concert film two weekends in a row and the first concert film to cross $100 million domestically.  The new release “Killers of the Flower Moon” came in 2nd with approx. $23 million.

Some people – including director Christopher Nolan – WAS saying last week that it was a great idea for Taylor Swift to pass the studio system and make a deal directly with a movie theater chain.  However, after this weeks drop (which is even worse for foreign countries) people are now talking about the movies missteps and about how many millions the left by making a deal directly with a movie theater.

There may be some animosity among Taylor Swift fans or non-fans.  In the AMC Century City theater (fairly close to my house) a fire alarm went off on a busy Saturday night.  Coincidentally, the alarm went off a few minutes after Martin Scorsese was IN THE THEATER to introduce his movie before it started.  Supposedly, he was gone before the fire alarm.  A couple friends were seeing a movie in the theater at that time – NOT seeing Taylor Swift or Killers of the Flower Moon” – and said the line to get a refund was CRAZY and they never said what really happened.

WORLDWIDE BOX OFFICE:  In foreign countries, “Killers of the Flower Moon” was the #1 movie making approx. the same as it made domestically.  “Taylor Swift The Eras Tour” movie only made $16 million in foreign countries for an international total of just under $50 million after 2 weekends.  It’s global total is almost $180 million but almost 75% of it is from it’s domestic take.  One of the comments that people are now saying about the movie is how much it failed to draw big numbers internationally.

STRIKE NEWS: People are once again hoping that the actors strike will be resolved soon ever since they announced this past weekend that they’re resuming negotiations tomorrow (Tuesday 10/24).  Some people think it might be similar to the writers strike which ended around the end of Sept.

However, the damage has already been done.  TV shows are now thinking their new seasons won’t start until Spring at the earliest (instead of January) and the movie release schedule has started changing.  “The Bikeriders” starring Austin Butler and Tom Hardy which was scheduled for early Dec is now removed from its release schedule (although it’s ready to be released so it could easily be added again).

Marvel announced that “Deadpool 3” has been removed from its May 2024 release date because they said there’s no way to finish filming and finish the post production and VFX in 5 months (if the actors strike ends very soon).  So, right now it looks like there won’t be a Marvel preview playing with “The Marvels” when it opens in 3 weeks.

Today they also announced that the not-finished-filming “Mission Impossible Dead Reckoning Part 2” which was scheduled for June 2024 has been pushed to May 2025.  In its place, “A Quiet Place Day One” shifts from March 2024 to June 2024.

OTHER NEWS: For Los Angeles residents, the newly restored Egyptian theater in Hollywood announced its reopening date for Nov 9.  When it reopens the American Cinematheque will run screenings on the weekends starting with the American Cinematheque’s annual 70mm festival, “Ultra Cinematheque 70 Fest”, on Nov. 10-21 (the movies being shown will be announced later this week) and Netflix will run screenings on weekdays starting with their upcoming release of the David Fincher movie “The Killer” (although that movie opens in other movie theaters this Friday).

LITTLE BIT OF HUMOR:

I’ve been watching the TV show “Gen V” on Amazon Prime recently.  It’s not very good but it has a funny scene now and then.  One of the funniest is when a man is questioning a tiny woman (her superpower is she can become SUPER SIZE or super tiny).  One of the questions is “WHAT’S MY FAVORITE MOVIE”.  She doesn’t know him well, so she guesses: “You’re a young white hetero man so I’m going to guess Star Wars, Godfather, or Shawshank”.  The photo above is from one of those 3 movies.  (By the way, one of my personal favorite movies is a different one of those 3 movies.)
