Hello everyone,
A couple of updates and one new movie news item…
Update #1 – The writers strike is officially over as of 12:01am on Wednesday 9/27 because the union has said that people can go back to work although the whole union hasn’t voted on the new contract yet. So, daytime and nighttime talk shows as well as other shows like Saturday Night Live will probably start showing new episode as soon as next week. They’re saying that TV shows will probably start showing new episodes at the start of 2024 (unless the actors strike goes on for a lot longer), and…hopefully….at least some of the 2024 movies will come out as scheduled. However, with a bunch of movies re-starting at the same time it could overload CGI and postproduction companies, so there’s a good chance more movies will postpone their release dates.
Update #2 – Today Taylor Swift announced that her upcoming movie will be released WORLDWIDE. So there it a possibility that it could be the 3rd movie to make OVER A BILLION WORLDWIDE in 2023.
New Movie News – the new Golden Globes company is preparing for their next awards show early next year. They announced 2 new categories for the next awards show. “Cinematic and Box office achievement” for movies and “Best Stand-Up Comedy” for television. The first one is sort of confusing since – unless Taylor Swifts movie makes over $1 BILLION worldwide – the nominations will be 2 movies: “The Super Mario Bros Movie” and “Barbie” and they can probably just give the award to “Barbie” right now. The second award is a lot better since there’s more and more stand-up comedy specials premiering on television. Netflix seems to have a new one premiere every couple weeks.
Still no word about “best stunt performer” which A LOT of people have been asking them to add. They’ve also been asking the Academy Awards to add a “best stunt performer” category. Personally, I think it would be a good thing to add.
They also announced that they’re updating who will be voting on their next awards show. They said that 3 people have been removed from their list of voters by the organization for “violations of code of conduct” and 15 other people have reportedly quit the organization according to their message to studios. They said they will be announcing the list of 300 voters for their next award show happening early next year soon.
I’d like to add that if a member of the new Golden Globes organization is reading this or someone who knows someone in the new organization is reading this, I have written several stories about the movie industry – including movie reviews – that were posted on a website, and I would be honored to be among the voters of the new Golden Globe organization. I have said some things about the Golden Globes in the past, but this is a whole new organization which I’m sure will be much better.
