Hello everyone,

  • For the upcoming big Memorial Day weekend “The Little Mermaid” is predicted to do well with approx. $125 million for four days and about $100 million for the 3 day weekend.  If those numbers are true it would be the best 4 day weekend for a Disney live action remake (the former best was the live action “Aladdin”) and the 4th best Memorial Day weekend ever (last years “Top Gun Maverick” is still the BEST Memorial Day weekend opening ever).  With the holdovers “Fast X and “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol competing for #2 (right now the predictions say “Fast X” should make around $27 million and “Guardians” should make around $26 million) plus “The Super Mario Bros Movie” still going strong after 2 months (predictions say it will be #4 with approx. $9 million 4-day) the weekend should about as strong as the pre-pandemic Memorial Day weekends.  Too bad the other new releases – “The Machine” (predicted $8 million) and “About My Father” (predicted $5 million) didn’t do that well.
  • According to internet reports, “Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny” has the longest running time of the franchise, and “Mission: Impossible — Dead Reckoning Part One” also has the longest running time for that franchise.  Oddly, their runtimes are 3 minutes apart.  Indiana Jones is reported to be 2 hours 33 minutes and Mission Impossible is reported to be 2 hours 36 minutes.
  • The 2nd Marvel movie scheduled for 2024 has been delayed due to the writers strike.  “Thunderbolts” was scheduled to start shooting soon for it’s July 2024 release but they recently announced the production has been delayed due to the writers strike (the previous delayed Marvel movie was “Blade” which is scheduled for Sept 2024)
  • Also due to the writers strike, it was reported that HALF of all movie and TV productions in the Los Angeles area that applied to recieve tax credits for filming have asked for the tax credits deadline to be extended because they predict the productions will be delayed due to the writers strike.
  • Also, another movie production was recently delayed because of a DIFFERENT strike.  The production of the movie “The Island” starring Joaquin Phoenix and Rooney Mara has been delayed because the independent film couldn’t get insurance due to the possible upcoming SAG/AFTRA strike that may start on July 1.

Little bit of humor….

There were reports that this summers “Oppenheimer” movie will have a running time of 3 hours.  Christopher Nolan responded to those rumors by saying….

Maybe he’s trying to get some of the “Barbie” audience to come see his movie?  I noticed the latest trailer shows that Florence Pugh and Emily Blunt are in the movie.
